CRAMER
STUDIO PER IL PIANOFORTE (84 ÉTUDES IN FOUR BOOKS) BUSONI: EIGHT ÉTUDES AFTER CRAMER The Cramer Études are marvellous pieces, through which Beethoven and Busoni
refined their technique. I approached these works – which may bring to mind
a Mendelssohn Song Without Words or a Beethoven Bagatelle - with the spirit
of discovery. In them, technical features support musical ideas. This is a
world premiere of the complete works. We much enjoyed recording these works,
and hope that the listener will share our pleasure. – Gianluca Luisi

ABOUT THIS RELEASE
Johann Baptist Cramer's formidable reputation as a pianist of sensitivity and singing tone
at the keyboard is transferred into his Études, the musical interest in these pieces including
echoes of Bach and Scarlatti. This made them favourites with Beethoven and Schumann
in their day, their influence resonating through pianistic history. Perhaps even more than
Clementi's contemporaneous Gradus ad Parnassum, Cramer's Études established a keyboard
style and tradition which can be traced through to Chopin, Busoni and beyond.
