WOLF-FERRARI, ERMANNO
Amanti sposi, Gli (The Married Lovers)

  • Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari. Opera giocosa in three acts. 1916.
  • Libretto by Sugana, Pizzolato, Golisciani and Forzano after Goldoni’s play Il ventaglio (The Fan).
  • First performance at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice, on 19th February 1925.

Wolf-Ferrari’s comic opera Gli amanti sposi was completed in 1916, although the libretto had been started in 1904. Of German and Italian parentage, Wolf-Ferrari took refuge during the war in Zurich at a time of obvious personal difficulty. It is one of five operas by Wolf-Ferrari based on the work of the 18th-century Venetian playwright Goldoni.
