Joseph Martin Kraus CDs

Joseph Martin Kraus, born in Miltenberg, Germany, attended university in Mainz, Erfurt, and Göttingen, before moving to Sweden in 1778. In 1780 he was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and commissioned to compose an opera, Proserpin. In 1781 he was appointed deputy Kapellmästare and in 1782 traveled Europe, meeting composers such as Gluck and Haydn, gaining their respect. Kraus returned to Stockholm in 1787 and the following year was appointed Kapellmästare.
