Prophone is a high-quality independent label focusing on jazz with a touch of Sweden. It was founded by Erland Boëthius, the son of Proprius’ founder Jacob Boëthius. The label shares Proprius’ reputation as an “audiophile label”. Since its inception in 1990, many internationally renowned artists have contributed to its catalogue: Esbjörn Svensson, Alice Babs, Jakob Karlzon, Rigmor Gustafsson, Steve Dobrogosz and Jeanette Lindström, to name a few.
One of Prophone’s albums, “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Ellen Andersson, has received this year's Gyllene Skivan award from OrkesterJournalen, one of Sweden’s most prestigious awards for jazz. The winner is selected by a combination of votes from a jury and from consumers.

This is his 15th performance at the BBC Proms and The Times praised his most recent appearance as "a remarkable yet unshowy performance by the German violinist [Christian Tetzlaff], playing with the utmost delicacy, his silky legato offering the merest glimmer of Viennese glitter.”
Don't miss Christian’s two new exciting releases, featuring Bach's Sonatas and Partitas and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.

About The Maltese Falcon
Dashiell Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon, first serialised in a magazine in 1930, is best known through the iconic Humphrey Bogart film of 1941. But it was the book that created the classic "noir" genre with its tough private detective threading his cool way between the criminals and the law. Sam Spade, the private eye solving the mystery of the Maltese statuette, was the template for Philip Marlowe and a host of others. But they come no more shrewd and cunning than Spade, with Hammett peppering the text with one-liners. Not even Bogart bettered the original. An idiomatic new recording from Eric Meyers.

Boris Giltburg brought down the house at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw on 27 August 2017. Together with the Residentie Orkest and conductor Nicholas Collon, he performed Rachmaninov’s passionate Piano Concerto No. 2, considered one of the best piano concertos ever written. Reviewing the concert, NRC.nl described Boris’ performance as “a sophisticated game with extremes … from whispering softness to a daunting beat. Easily switching between quicksilver passages, dreamy melodies with a velvet touch and percussive play in the reprise.” Boris’ newest recording of the “Rach Two”, paired with the Études-tableaux, Op. 33, features the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto. In November, Boris will appear again with Prieto in Liverpool with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the “Rach Three”.
“Giltburg is an artist whose range of expression brought so much more than slushy romance to Rachmaninov’s emotion-laden score. Whether wistful and dreamy or tense and heart-aching, the lyricism of his playing was a joy to listen to.”
– The Scotsman (on a concert of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra)

Didone abbandonata was one of the greatest successes in the rather brief operatic career of Leonardo Vinci (not to be mistaken for Leonardo da Vinci), a musician who apparently led an adventurous life, based on what little we know about it. A great success upon its première in 1726, this live recording with a cast of baroque specialists at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale, Florence is the opera’s first modern performance and a revival of one of the great masterpieces of early 18th-century opera. Opera lovers can transport themselves back almost 300 years by watching the opera on DVD (DYN-37788) or by listening to it on three CDs (CDS7788.03).
Naxos’ new album featuring works by Bob Chilcott is one of our new releases this month! Bob Chilcott is one of Britain’s most popular and respected composers and his choral music is performed worldwide. He has always embraced a broad stylistic palette and his writing for voice combined with jazz instrumentation gives these works a sense of vitality and energy. Performed by leading jazz soloists and Commotio, the distinguished promoters of contemporary repertoire, this sequence of brilliant villanelles, folk song arrangements and witty settings reveals once again the breadth of Chilcott’s musical imagination.
