CHUNG, Yiu-Kwong: Whirling Dance / Flute Concerto / MA, Shui-Long: Bamboo Flute Concerto (Bezaly, Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Chung Yiu-Kwong)
The Taipei Chinese Orchestra, founded in 1979, is the first professional Chinese orchestra in Taiwan, presenting over fifty regular concerts every year. Since composer Yiu-Kwong Chung’s appointment as general director in 2007, the orchestra has collaborated with Evelyn Glennie, Claude Delangle, Christian Lindberg, Sharon Bezaly, Mischa Maisky, and the Kronos Quartet. The BIS release of Whirling Dance, featuring flautist Sharon Bezaly, in April 2009 won the Jury Award and the Best Traditional Music Album Award at the Taiwan 21st Golden Melody Awards in 2010. Two further collaborative releases have followed.
