Of American–Turkish parentage, Kamran Ince had his early musical training in Ankara and Izmir, before returning to America, where he studied at Oberlin and at the Eastman School of Music. His compositions, chiefly instrumental and generally neo-Romantic, include orchestral and chamber music.

Orchestral Music

Ince often draws inspiration from Turkey, as in his Symphony No. 3 ‘The Siege of Vienna’, which recalls an important event in Turkish history. Symphony No. 4 ‘Sardis’ takes its title from the ancient capital of Lydia and its inspiration from the modern excavations of the site. Ince draws a comparison between his Domes and the spiritual obsessiveness of the Whirling Dervishes.
